Get ready, swimming fans! The World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) are just on the horizon and will showcase your favourite athletes and rising swimming stars. This year, World Aquatics and blockchain payment sponsor UPCX are bringing you closer to the action, allowing you to vote to help recognise standout performances across the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming season through a digital fan engagement initiative powered by UPCX's industry-leading blockchain technology.

UPCX and World Aquatics 2024 Partnership

At this year’s World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) – Budapest 2024, World Aquatics and UPCX are having fans help choose the male and female UPCX Breakout Athletes from the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming season.

From 10-14 December, fans can vote on the UPCX Fan Engagement App (download here) for shortlisted athletes who have made a surprise or breakthrough performance at either the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2024 or Swimming Championships (25m) in Budapest.

The shortlist will feature athletes who are entirely new on the international scene as well as those who have performed solidly over previous years, now taking a significant step forward to the elite.

The World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) marks the grand finale of an extraordinary year that includes the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup. This season culminates with an exciting fan-driven initiative celebrating breakout swimming performances. The top male and female breakout athletes will each be awarded a prize of USD 10,000 during a special ceremony before the final session of the competition in Hungary’s vibrant capital, Budapest.

When is the voting period?

The voting period runs from 10-14 December.

Which athletes are shortlisted for the voting?

The shortlist will feature athletes who in 2024 are entirely new on the international scene as well as those who have performed solidly over previous years, now taking a significant step forward to the elite.

An initial selection based on performance at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2024 will be posted to the app. Additional athletes will be added based on performance during the upcoming World Aquatics Swimming Championships.

How do I vote?

Download the UPCX Breakout Athlete application here, then vote for your favourite eligible male and female athlete. Each registration will grant two votes per gender. Remember, additional athletes will be added during the World Aquatics Swimming Championships so save those votes!

Will there be an awards ceremony?

The UPCX Breakout Athlete Awards will be presented on 15 December 2024, just before the final evening session of the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in Budapest. The male and female winners will each receive a USD 10,000 cash prize.

[17 February 2024, Singapore] – UPCX-Platforms PTE. LTD. (referred to as "UPCX"), the developer of an open-source payment system built on a high-speed blockchain optimised for financial services, proudly announces its agreement to support the World Aquatics events, including the World Aquatics Championships - Doha 2024 and the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2024.

The World Aquatics Championships will take place in the Qatari capital city from 2-18 February 2024 and will feature six aquatic sports – swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming and high diving.

The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2024 tour will take place in three Asian cities over three consecutive weeks in October and November 2024. The events will feature three days of action-packed racing in the short course (25m) pool in Shanghai (CHN), Incheon (KOR), and Singapore (SGP).

As the international governing body overseeing six aquatic sports, World Aquatics' agreement with UPCX will bring awareness to UPCX’s blockchain-driven payment platform.

During the World Aquatics Championships and Swimming World Cup, the UPCX logo will feature prominently on athlete race bibs as well as across a range of digital content.

UPCX is dedicated to improving financial solutions and payments using blockchain technology, with a focus on ensuring a readily accessible approach for consumers.
